MONADNOCK BEEKEEPER'S ASSOCIATION May 6, 2010 @ 7:00 pm Minutes * Welcome - Club President Steve Weber called the meeting to order. * Secretary's Report - There was no business discussed at the April Meeting. Sam Comfort spoke to the club on the advantages of the top bar hive. Members who do not receive future announcements and minutes by email should be sure to provide the secretary with their current email address. * Treasurer's Report - The treasurer reported that the club has a checking balance of $2,589.79. Income from last month's meeting was $485.00 which includes $195.00 ($145.00 profit) and $290.00 from new members (13) and donations. Expenses were $1,190.00 to NH Honeybee for package bees for the class, $100 for Stonewall Farm 4/17 rental, and $250.00 for our speaker on 4/17. * Beginner Beekeeping Class for 2010 - The next beginner's beekeeping class will be held on May 8 at Martha and Cole Mills' house in Keene. * Next Meeting - Al Nadeau will talk about his program to raise queens at our next meeting on June 3 at Stonewall Farm. * New Hampshire Honey Bee - Our gracious hosts for this meeting were Alison and John Solomonides of New Hampshire Honey Bee in Gilsum. They established their business to provide us with an alternative to the big catalog and internet beekeeping suppliers. They answer the phone, respond to emails, and are our neighbors. Whenever possible, they try to utilize local suppliers for the products they sell. Alison spoke to us about candle making and provided us with a solid introduction to both molded and dipped candles.
